Quick answer
A 10x10 slab at 4 inches thick needs about 1.36 cubic yards with 10% waste. At $150 per cubic yard, ready-mix material costs about $204.
How the calculator works
Volume = length × width × (thickness ÷ 12) ÷ 27. Cost = cubic yards × price per cubic yard.
What the price per cubic yard includes
Ready-mix is quoted per cubic yard before delivery, taxes, and short-load fees. A “short load” is any pour below the supplier’s minimum, and it usually adds a flat fee.
This calculator uses material cost only. Site prep, forms, reinforcement, finish labor, and permits are separate line items.
Bagged concrete vs ready-mix
Bagged mix makes sense for repairs, footings, and small pads under about half a cubic yard.
For a 10x10 slab, 62 eighty-pound bags cost more in materials than ready-mix and take several hours to mix and place. Ready-mix is usually the better choice once you pass one yard.
How to reduce slab cost without weakening it
Keep the subgrade flat and compacted. Concrete does not compensate for bad base preparation; it simply cracks over soft spots.
Use the correct thickness for the load. A 4-inch slab is standard for patios and walkways, while driveways often need 5 to 6 inches and reinforcement.
Note. This is material cost only. Add grading, forms, wire mesh, delivery, and finishing labor separately.
| Slab size | Thickness | Cu yd | 80 lb bags | Material cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4 x 4 | 4" | 0.22 | 10 | $33 |
| 8 x 8 | 4" | 0.87 | 40 | $130 |
| 10 x 10 | 4" | 1.36 | 62 | $204 |
| 12 x 12 | 4" | 1.96 | 89 | $294 |
| 20 x 20 | 4" | 5.43 | 245 | $815 |
| 24 x 24 | 6" | 11.73 | 528 | $1,760 |
FAQ
How much does a 10x10 concrete slab cost in materials?
About $204 in ready-mix at $150 per cubic yard, or about $434 if you use 62 eighty-pound bags at $7 each.
Is bagged concrete cheaper than ready-mix?
Not for large slabs. Bagged concrete usually costs $11 to $15 per cubic foot, while ready-mix is $5 to $7 per cubic foot before delivery.
How much does thickness affect cost?
Cost rises almost linearly with thickness. A 6-inch slab uses 50% more concrete than a 4-inch slab of the same size.
What price should I use for ready-mix?
Use your local supplier’s quoted price. In 2026, typical ready-mix ranges from $125 to $200 per cubic yard before delivery.
